Bénodet - Finistère, Brittany

Situated in the south of the Breton peninsula, Bénodet has been getting increasing amounts of attention in recent years as being one of Brittany's most fashionable up-and-coming resorts.

This part of France is known for its picturesque countryside, and you will find many idyllic walks along the coast and inland.

The long sandy beaches are periodically intercut by jagged rocks and patches of woodland that characterise this region, and Bénodet itself is small enough to let you unwind, but large enough to keep you entertained.

Perhaps most famous is Bénodet's casino, but there are a number of other things happening in this corner of Brittany, such as a lively market on Mondays, occasional music concerts, and even a sailing race in May.

It is also home to an attractive and ancient church which dates back to the 11th century.

Only 15km inland is the ornate town of Quimper - one of France's gems - which attracts visitors from all over the country and beyond.  The city is the oldest in Brittany, and though it has a relaxed feel you will enjoy the buzzing atmosphere of the Medieval Quarter as you explore its many shops, cafés and bars.

Quimper is known for its local pottery, which makes a perfect souvenir or gift for your poor friends and relatives who are stuck back home!

A short 13km drive or cycle down the coast will take you to Concarneau, famous for its historic Ville Close, a walled town near the harbour.  The Ville Close, which used to be a centre for shipbuilding, is connected to the town by a drawbridge and has a number of restaurants and shops.

If it's a nice day, why not take the boat?  There is a regular boat service from Benodet to Concarneau in the summer and you will doubtless enjoy the wonderful views of the Breton coast.
